In the UK it is called the underground.

They may be known as subway or underground trains (if they run under the ground in tunnels), or elevated trains (if they run above the ground on trestles). The general name is metro train, or rapid transit.

In the UK we call them the Underground, or the Tube.

In most European countries, it is the Metro.

In Germany, Austria and Switzerland, it is U-Bahn, which is short for 'Untergrundbahn', which means, underground railway.

Incidentally, in the UK a subway is an underground foot passageway, a lot of Tube stations have them. It must be very confusing for our American visitors to be told to get to the Underground by using the subway.
