l do not know about weird train whistles, but in NYC Subway, when subways are late, sometimes they use local track and blown their horns as trains bypass local stations.

My cousin told me that in England people have been hearing train whistles even though a railway has not ran through that part in years. One man in Georgia said that there is ghost train where he lives & it has been seen by campers; he says it keeps trying to get to the station & yet it does not make it. So yeah it Must be a ghost train.
