PAN Card

you have an option while booking a ticket online

You can carry one of the following :
1. Driving license
2. Pan card
3. Voter is ID given by govt. of India
4. Ration card
[or]
any other proof of the state or union govt. about your identity.
You have to specify what you are carrying in the E-ticket beforehand on the net.

The ID means Photo ID to prove yourselves who you are
Any ID with Photo issued by any Departments, Schools, Student ID, Postal ID, Railway ID, Ration Card (if it is with your photo), Voter ID, Driving Licence, Passport etc.
But only thing is that before you book the ticket you have to choose which one you are going to carry while travelling.
and give the same for booking

practically any photo ID with a No will do, usually they do not check so thoroughly
